Advancing Indigenous Women’s knowledge and rights in combating the climate crisis

In accordance with the CSW 66 priority theme in 2022: “Achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programs”, FIMI, IWGIA, AIPP and IPMG conducted this side event, "Advancing Indigenous Women’s knowledge and rights in combating the climate crisis."

2021 UN Forum on Business and Human Rights Side Event: Voices from the Ground

In the context of the 2021 UN Forum on Business and Human Rights and as a follow up to the COP26, the Zero Tolerance Initiative along with IWGIA, AIPP, Forest Peoples Programme, the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre, human rights defenders, Indigenous leaders and community representatives from all regions are organising an unofficial side event.

 

On 28 February 2022, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a groundbreaking report on Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability, a contribution of the Working Group II (WGII) to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6). This IWGIA briefing paper analyses the IPCC report’s findings with regards to Indigenous Peoples and critically assesses how Indigenous Peoples’ knowledge is regarded in broader global climate action.

Locked Down and Locked Out

Locked Down and Locked Out is a new 3 part podcast brought to you by IWGIA in collaboration with GIZ supported by BMZ.

The intention of the series is to spread awareness of the violation of Indigenous Peoples basic human rights during the pandemic, and explain how the drastic measures taken by the governments in their responses are actually ruining the lives and livelihoods of these people.

According to reliable information received by Indigenous Peoples Rights International (IPRI) and the International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA), the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania is currently planning the eviction of the Maasai Indigenous people from a 1,500 km2 area in their ancestral land.
