Event: UNDRIP and The Human Rights Council

GENEVA: On the occasion of the 36th session of the Human Rights Council, the Permanent Missions of Denmark, Mexico and Guatemala, the OHCHR, the Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) and the International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA) are hosting a side event to mark the 10th Anniversary of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The event takes place the 20th September 2017 in Conference Room 23, UN Head Quarter in Geneva from 16:00-17:45.

The event provides a space for governmental delegations, Indigenous Peoples representatives, UN mandate holders, international institutions and NGOs attending the 36th session of the Human Rights Council to discuss.

Good practices: UNDRIP

The key topics will be good practices and lessons learned regarding the implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and to identify ongoing challenges and obstacles. The event will also consider the role of the Human Rights Council and its mechanisms:

What role have they played in advancing the implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples over the past ten years and how could this be strengthened?

The event will be used to launch a video that has been produced by OHCHR, with funding by European Union, to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Declaration. The video provides viewers with the opportunity to take stock of achievements made since the adoption of the Declaration, to consider good practices and to identify ongoing persistent challenges and obstacles.
