2024 was a year of resilience, rights, and results for Indigenous Peoples worldwide. We are proud to share the stories and results of our important work with our dedicated partners and network to promote and defend Indigenous Peoples' rights.

From securing land rights to shaping climate policy, IWGIA and 73 partners across 32 countries made powerful strides. Together we:

  • Promoted 22 Indigenous-led advocacy actions on climate and biodiversity policy at the national level in 9 countries;
  • Promoted 23 Indigenous-led advocacy actions on climate, biodiversity and the just transition at the international level;
  • Protested 34 land rights violations and violations against Indigenous Peoples Human Rights Defenders in 6 countries;
  • Took 8 actions in 4 countries to achieve land tenure security;
  • Supported 9 Indigenous communities and territories in 7 countries in developing or implementing strategies for the recognition/management of their lands;
  • Supported 152 practitioners and Indigenous representatives in training sessions on Indigenous Peoples' rights and international human rights processes;
  • Facilitated the participation of 574 Indigenous representatives and Indigenous Peoples' rights experts to attend and engage with 11 international and 3 regional mechanisms;
  • Took 13 actions to protest and act on Gender-Based Violence in 7 countries;
  • Supported 10 Indigenous women's organizations in 9 countries;
  • Completed 92 new community surveys and 6 new national surveys as part of the Indigenous Navigator; and
  • Ensured that widespread awareness continued, with more than 75 press features on urgent topics such as Indigenous Peoples’ rights violations, attacks on rights activists and defenders, land grabbing, deforestation, just transition, and clean energy.

Together, we’re documenting, advocating, and supporting empowerment for a just, inclusive future for Indigenous Peoples.
