The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights has established a Working Group on Indigenous Populations/Communities (Working Group) that formulates recommendations and proposals on appropriate measures to prevent and remedy violations of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous peoples and communities. The working group paid a research visit to the Republic of Kenya from March 1-19, 2010 and this is the report is the result of the visit. The report gives an account of meetings held with government authorities, civil society organizations, indigenous communities and other stakeholders, it describes the situation of the indigenous populations in the country and it makes recommendations to the Government, civil society organizations and the international community in Kenya. The meetings were held across the country in Nairobi, Kitengela, Nakuru, Mariashoni, Mau Forrest Baringo, Bogoria, Nanyuki, Isiolo, Dol Dol, and Garissa. The report is published both in English and French.
