Country situations information on the human rights situation of Indigenous Peoples in Cambodia

IWGIA and AIPP are happy to learn from the report to the HRC that the OHCHR has been raising awareness and given training to the ministry of Justice staff on non-judicial grievance settlement mechanisms, with a focus on gender-related land rights disputes. And that the support of OHCHR has resulted in dispute resolution between IPs in Mondulkiri and Socfin rubber plantation where most land disputes relating to collective areas have been resolved and will be included in the communities’ applications for communal land titling.

IWGIA's submission on the Congo Brazzaville country report of the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples

The International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA) welcomes the country report on Congo Brazzaville made by the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples. The report gives an excellent overview of the legal and policy frameworks for indigenous peoples in Congo Brazzaville and of the dire situation that indigenous peoples in the country are facing. IWGIA also considers the recommendations provided to the government and civil society in Congo Brazzaville – and to international donors and conservations agencies -. extremely relevant and hopes they will be fully implemented.

The Ogiek Peoples Development Programme (OPDP) and the International Work Group for Indigenous Affairs (IWGIA) note with appreciation that the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has in 2019 provided assistance for the implementation of the African Court ruling on the rights of the indigenous Ogiek people (paragraphs 38 and 39 of the “Report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights on the rights of indigenous peoples”: https://undocs.org/en/A/HRC/45/22 )

Since then, the human rights situation of the Ogiek people has seriously deteriorated.  OPDP and IWGIA would like to call on the OHCHR to take action and call on the Government of Kenya to stop these gross ongoing human rights violations.
