IWGIA member of the International Land Coalition

ILC is a strong global coalition that focuses on land rights. We at IWGIA see our membership as an opportunity to be part of a broad and resourceful network that reaches a global audience. While the ILC network can strengthen IWGIA’s ability to reach a broad audience and expand our advocacy platforms and outreach, we also believe that IWGIA can contribute to ILC’s work and knowledge by providing expertise and networks within the field of indigenous peoples’ land rights.

A global Coalition ILC has 152 members in over 50 countries, including civil society and farmers’ organisations, United Nations agencies, NGOs, and research institutes. The ILC Secretariat is hosted by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome, Italy, and is supported by regional platforms in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The Secretariat facilitates ILC activities by: supporting ILC governing bodies, including through the preparation of institutional documents related to meetings, assemblies and other forums; mobilising resources; and promoting communication, knowledge sharing, and learning among members and partners. Recent developments of ILC In recent years, ILC has strengthened its decentralisation process by supporting members in Africa, Asia and Latin America to build solid regional platforms. Today, the work of the Coalition is coordinated by the Secretariat and by three regional nodes that work in close collaboration with ILC’s members in the regions (currently defined regional platforms). Each of these nodes is hosted by a member organisation: the Rwanda Institute for Sustainable Development (RISD) is the ILC Africa node host and is based in Kigali, Rwanda; the Consortium for Agrarian Reform/Konsorsium Pembaruan Agraria (KPA) in Jakarta, Indonesia; and the ILC Latin America node is hosted by El Centro Peruano de Estudios Sociales (CEPES) in Lima, Peru. Currently, global members and members from other regions are supported through the ILC Secretariat in Rome.
