This publication is a result of the dialogue from the International Expert Seminar on Best Practices for the Implementation of the Recommendations of the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous peoples. The purpose is to look at the Special Rapporteur mechanism and analyse what has been achieved so far. It gives recommendations on best practices to the Human Rights Council, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN system in general on how to strengthen the mechanism. Recommendations are also aimed at indigenous peoples and their organizations on how to collaborate more effectively with the Special Rapporteur mechanism and draw more benefits from it.
